What can you tell me about mid-year library subscription cancellations?
Answer
As part of the College’s ongoing FY25 budgeting measures, Wallace Library has been asked by the Office of the Provost and the Division of Finance and Administration to review all databases and journal subscriptions for possible immediate savings.
Our typical approach when deciding to renew or cancel a subscription is to review usage, cost, and the subscription’s support of the College’s curriculum. Given the urgency of our work, we have instead reached out to nearly all vendors to explore our existing contracts. We have been working with the Office of the Provost and the Division Heads as we navigate this process.
As of February 13, 2025, the following databases and journal subscriptions have been cancelled.

Annual Review of Anthropology

When licensed to do so, the College retains post-termination access to full text published during the subscription period. For example, we retain access to all content published in Oxford Academic from the years 2010-2024. Please bear with us as we adjust our catalog to reflect this access.
As this will be an ongoing process, additional cancellations will be posted on this web page.
We encourage you and your students to use the library’s interlibrary loan service to request copies of journal articles you may no longer be able to access.
The Research & Instruction team’s librarian liaisons to each division - Cary Gouldin for Humanities and Creative Arts, Jenny Castel for Social Sciences, and Jodi Devine for Sciences and Mathematics - are prepared to work with faculty and students to adjust assignments which may assume access to the databases and journals listed above.
Please contact Dean of Library Services Megan Brooks with questions about this process.
